If there was a secret passage promising you a step into the future, would you take it?
It sounds like a great idea at first, because if you are anything like me sometimes you wonder what life might be like if you just knew. Stuff like, did you get the new job, will the surgery be a success, or will retirement be what we envisioned?
There would be no surprises, since we would know everything ahead of time. For those of us who are creatures of habit and love organization, our world would be a perfect bubble of contentment.
Or would it?
To think about the promise of such magic would be omniscient, but what are the consequences of such a gift? What would it really mean? After all seeing into the future would mean taking the bad with the good.
Knowing the tough stuff might instigate a defeatist attitude, as destiny will stand in the way of motivation, and the dynamics of our communication would change too. There would no longer be a need to talk about our dreams, our desires, or our curiosities.
What would be the use?
Personally, I think the greatest detriment, would be what you miss along the way, including the lessons.
Where would our sense of wonder come from?
When will we decide that the obstacles that need to be conquered, belong to us? And how do we learn to tackle what is in our way? 
How do we decide we have the power to change our path at anytime, if we don’t like the direction we are headed in. 
Look ahead. Always look ahead. 
The road to your future is not always as you planned. It is not meant to be. Instead it is a series of hills, climbs, and obstacles to guide you, mold you, and wait for you. Because in the end, the greatest gift might just be in cresting that summit to find out what is on the other side.

hmmm, I was hoping you’d respond if you were still awake. I can definitely see that for you (you did mean would, right?) And I laughed picturing you leaping into that arch. (sometimes I picture you as your drawings, with workout shoes on). The jump would probably reduce some anxiety, initially but I still believe you are in the midst of your “life’s work” and that work includes gathering people as you go.

I have no idea what i am doing just desperately trying to sort everything asap.
Gathering people and accepting the i have to let some of them go..or just leave them on their own.
Its definitely a sudden transition maybe thats why its the hardest. And make me want to escape at times.

lolol, I pretty much woke up like that today, and one day I am going to leave the house like that to see the reaction I get.
I know….there are times to let. them. go. I don’t think you ever put your you first, and there are times when that is ok.

hahaha. No worries. I am not telling you where this is since you said you’d run as fast as you can to see the future. I plan to be the gatekeeper so you can’t pass. lol. The other side is a cliff. I would prefer to sit and drink coffee or tea and watch everyone else decide what they should do.

Well i remember i commented earlier then i dont where it went.
It was about putting myself before. I have been stupid not to do that because in the end whoever you were putting before you moves on leaving you behind and then they think you are a loser.
But now on i am not going to do it. I am trying not to at least. It has done enough damage already.

great post and photos .. I often think knowing the future would be self-defeating, no mystery, nothing to work for … we can always change our circumstances so even the future wouldn’t be set in stone 🙂

I love the way you have used such an old landscape to make us think of the future and how we would approach it. If I had a landscape like that I think I’d just fall into it.

Yes…we do that quite often. Nature is a has a sense of spirituality for me…for obvious reasons. I love the way you put that. Thanks for taking a minute to read.

What great photos! To answer your question, yes and no…I think it’s better I don’t know the future so that I can create it as I go. But when times are tough, I’d like to hear that things get better…at least a little confirmation…know what I mean? 🙂

Nice post. And I would not like to know what the future holds. I think it’s easier to deal with the tough times when they are just there, and you are forced to deal with it. You don’t have to stress about it coming. And then the great surprises are more appreciated because you don’t expect them. 🙂

In the Star Trek episode ‘The City On The Edge Of Forever’ the beginning is shot in Arches NP and one of the Arches, I forget which one, is a time machine. It this episode it went into the past, but the heady dialogue implied it could just as easily transport into the future.

Jeff, Thank you. That is so interesting! Just tried to do some research before I responded to you, and while I find lots of info, couldn’t find location. We are a day drive from Arches and we were just back about year ago. Next time I’m going to inquire. Interesting. I love fun facts, in addition to history the history of our National parks. Oops, erase all that. The arch in the show is clearly constructed. Possibly the scene was filmed in arches… the landscape is correct. This is what I get for relying on an old memory. Things blend an blur. If it was true, it would be cool though. Sorry.

hahaha. its all good. There are plenty of places it could happen. I need to do another post about arches. We tackled Corona Arch. Necessary and not quite as hard as the virus. Hope you and your family are staying healthy.
