I’ll just sit back and watch.

Just last week it was possible to cross to the island at Lake Pleasant. This week not so much. With the reservoir filling, it would be risky, so we parked ourselves on the ridge. It was for two reasons. One, in the event we need to make a rescue, and two for the entertainment. A few years ago we watched a vehicle get stuck out there when the water level raised, just enough, over a few hours to make it impassible.
So we watch….It is also a fantastic study of communication and quite telling about relationships.
It’s a fun jaunt, some days. Today wasn’t that day.
Wind Kisses, Donna
Thanks for the inspiration John.
What great road trip.

Hard to imagine such a change in just a week. Did it rain? We didn’t get any.

No rain. They are just letting the water out in the north. It’s fed by CAP, along with the Agua Fria. Love it out there. Always nice to see water in our landscape.

So we are just passing it along to you! Water is wonderful. Thank goodness for Agua Fria. 🙂 In CA we had the Friant-Kern Canal that traversed our valley and fed our agribusiness. It was pretty full most of the time.

Yes. Unfortunately everything is dangerously low here. but we all do what we can do….and pray for rain.

This is just our first year here, so we have no levels to measure by except the water marks on the rocks. We thought the monsoons would help and it seemed like a lot of snow last year. To us it was a tremendous amount of snow!!! We will pray for water.

Yes. And you did have a lot. It should bring us a nice wild flower season this spring too.

I hope so. We could go out for a photo shoot! 🙂

In a couple weeks we’re going to Tucson for the weekend. Any recommendations of things to see and do? We’ve been to Saguaro a number of times (the west side) and up Mt. Lemmon, which we’ll do again. But I’m open to suggestions.

hmmm. We were just there last weekend for the Air Show. We aren’t super familiar with Tucson. Been a few times on our way to Tombstone or Wilcox.
1. The Air and Space Museum is a good one. My husband loves military history, but I liked it too, as did my grandson.
2. Tucson is famous for the Presidio Trail or Turquoise Trail. It is two and a half miles walking around town learning its history. I’ll attach the link. Its kinda fun to follow the “turquoise trail”.
3. We heard about a Taco Tour either with a guide or on your own, so if you like tacos search that.
4. Old Tucson Studios was fantastic fun. Unfortunately, I am not sure they are going to open back up. They are working on it, but Covid hit them pretty hard financially. Might just check.
The city is inundated with murals. Keep your eyes open.

Thanks, Donna. I read about the taco trail as well. They have other trails, too.

Yes. Not sure there is a lot to do there. Others might debate that. Hope you do a post, I would be curious to find out where you adventure.

We laughed a lot. 3 attempts and the woman had enough. They backed off, Kayaked from the main side. It was funny, and we admit we kinda wanted to rescue them. Lol

So, did they make it across? Did they get stuck? Or did they come to their senses and give up before it was too late?!

No they gave up after “discussion”. We went down and talked with them after. They felt it was a better to get the kayaks out from there. Nice people.

There’s a causeway to Holy Island in north east England were drivers regularly get stuck because the tides look so deceptive. There are clear signs warning them not to cross and giving the safe times, but they don’t always believe them. It costs the authorities a fortune every year to rescue stranded drivers and passengers, while the cars are written off completely.

In our state we have,, what is called the Stupid Motorist Law. Stating…IF you cross areas that are marked as possible flood areas that you should not cross, you WILL pay for all the costs to rescue you. And unfortunately, it doesn’t always matter.
One area that I would love to visit near Plymouth, I think, is St. Michaels Island. Is is true is can only be crossed with the tide? It looks interesting out there, and I wonder if it has been inundated with tourists. Thanks Sarah. Donna

St Michael’s Mount? I’ve never been but yes, I believe you can only cross at low tide. And yes, I also think it does get very busy, but most places that get busy do so for a reason, don’t they? The place I’m talking about in the north east, Holy Island or Lindisfarne as it’s also known, does get busy too in the summer at low tide, but if you stay overnight it’s amazingly atmospheric. I have a post about it if you’re curious: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/baptised-in-the-blood-of-so-many-good-men/

As many times as I have visited Lake Pleasant, I never noticed the Baker Islands. I had to use Google Maps to see where this image was taken and as a bonus, found out that the two islands have names.
Thanks always for joining in on Cellpic Sunday!

And now I have learned something. Didn’t know they were even privy to a name. The Baker Islands….. You probably didn’t notice them because more often then not they are under water. It’s fun right now though, with all the open space to drive to. Its filling pretty quickly though. Thank YOU.

Lol. Your Jeep would have made it, But… is it worth the risk? Not for us.

I agree! We have a friend that crossed an area in a canyon in Wickenburg. It was quicksand. They sunk in seconds and were lucky they didn’t lose the jeep. Water came in and a tow truck had to come out to them. The Tow truck driver said they were very lucky as several jeeps and trucks are submerged in the area. Yikes!

Wow. Great lesson. Always a fear of mine. When we were in White Pocket, we were pretty careful. Heard there’s a lot of instances up there as well. Thanks for YOUR info!
