I think the birds that to decide to nest in my yard feel safe.
In fact, I think it might be purposeful. They know I will leave them alone, and provide entertainment for them. And their cooing provides music for me.
I found this one at eye level when I stood up today, and while I am not a dove expert, I am hoping it is a white-winged dove.

You see the white-winged doves are not here for our listening pleasure. Instead, they have a beneficial role in the Sonoran desert, a symbiotic relationship with the saguaro cactus, our state flower.

The cacti provide food, water and sometimes shelter, while the doves sip the nectar, and pollinate the plants. The fruit from the saguaro becomes a food source and the seeds are then scattered throughout the desert.
March is a little soon for the flowers, so this photo is from another time.

Fingers crossed I can respectfully capture the white-winged doves on the flowering cacti this year.
But for now…
Just like the white-winged dove, Sings a song, sounds like she’s singing, Ooh, baby, ooh, said ooh. – Stevie Nicks.

It is always so nice to have them close, as you know. Learning their habits and feeling like pets.

It was so sweet sitting there. In a few of my photos looked like a toy. Big job she has.

What lovely birds to have nesting so close! They should be the source of many photos in the months to come ๐

Thanks Sarah. I was thinking the same. Rarely do we see baby doves. They seem to grow right up out of the nest. Iโm going to be more diligent in watching. As long as I can keep them at a safe distance. ( I finally got my camera back out with a longer lens). It feels like the cell phone has been my go to for the last couple years. Convenience. Donna

Wonderful to capture the Dove. We have had a couple of Dove in our backyard, they raised a family up on one of the old oak tree there. ๐
