This week we attempt to photograph fragments. Memories, music, views, art and/or nature are all possibliities. For me, a gallery comes together from my love of exploration and insatiable curiosity.

Fragments of the Past:

I find it fascinating to visit old mining camps, ghost towns, of the southwest. They come with a history that often remains a mystery. At Capitol Reef, we found fragments of glass and pottery carefully placed on what appeared to be an old wall. And there it stays with stories we know nothing about.

And I wondered not about what we were missing, but what we had found.

Fragments of Creativity:

What is it that we love about mosaic art? Ever thought about that? Is it the tiny, random pieces we put together to make it whole? Is it the color, or the one-of-a-kind art? Or maybe it is a chance to give broken pieces a story of their own to tell.

Look what can happen when we stick together.

Fragments of Purpose:

If I ever run away from home, you will find me at JJs Mercantile, on the Colorado River, in Moab. I will be in the garden. It is a garden-to-table concept and the compost returns to it’s roots. No pun intended. Every piece of the garden is made with repurposed wood. Below, fragments of wood, clay pots and stumps make a welcome home for mason bees. And patio spaces are created for the rest of us.

Fragments of the Ocean:

I have talked of my love for sea glass before. I am not sure if it is the glass I love or simply the fun I have in the search. Ironically enough, it is not unlike the broken glass of the mining camps, the mosaic art, or the old stumps above. Sea glass is symbolic of renewal and healing. The smooth edges tell of an unspoken arduous journey and the tests of time. No two pieces are alike, and no journeys the same. All of them the piece of another story, first… a fragment in time.
