This week let’s tap into our own interpretations of, On Display.

You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

I guess you might think I am talking about a job interview. Instead, I welcome you to the world of visual impact, a marketing tool for any and every business. Yes, the sign above, was indeed, once the entrance to a brothel, and now is a quirky, gift shop display in Jerome, AZ.

Visual impact is crucial to attract customers and invite them to step inside. Business owners know, without eye-catching elements, or a gimmick, potential customers might walk on by.

We are wired to respond to those captivating visuals. The Crazy Pig was probably one of the most photographed businesses on the Quartier Petit in Quebec. And while I understand it is a favorite eatery, most know it as, the place with the pig peeking in the window.

There are many visual elements to grab our attention. I could use a photo of Target to make my point. But sometimes beacons come with brilliant color, curb appeal and an open door inviting us to come in…

You are exactly where you are meant to be.

Or maybe it’s the windows, or lack of them that feels right.

Only a few businesses will succeed by having the lowest price.  Most need a strategy that includes a welcome or an invite.

Those of us who are not shoppers, need something more. I know shop-front photos will show my impressions of a place, and I know my husband will be looking for a seat/bench to keep up with current events.

And every once in awhile you will find a live mannequin on display waiting for a mama who does love to shop.
