Shoooooees!

It was the first thing that came to mind when I read John’s challenge this week. In his post he showcases photographs of favorite ways to travel, journey or simply be, on the move.

If you are a toddler, on the move is your mantra.   In fact, they are experts and define the concept with authority.     Oh they stop…for snacks, an ant line, and friendly puppies,  but rest assured, they are never done.

When I arrive at my daughter’s house, two year old Lainey runs from the shoe locker.  Shoes in hand, she sits by the door,  and waits until they are on her feet.   She seems proud of them. I guess it might be because of the freedom and independence they allow her, or quite possibly because she knows I like to explore the neighborhood too.

Today she chases the pigeons  in a grassy area nearby. Five minutes later she studies the acorns that conveniently fell into a crack in the sidewalk, all while zooming in unison with the F-16  that flew overhead.

We keep walking and I am reminded of that wow moment when a balloon floated by another time.

The light rain that came next made her laugh. We didn’t rush. In Arizona, falling rain is an anomaly and this was most likely a first for her. Someday she might enjoy barefoot splashes with her sister. For now she loves her shoes.

For me and my husband, rambling around roads less traveled in our Jeep is a favorite way to roll. With him behind the wheel and me in the passenger seat we search for trails, wildlife, waterfalls, and anything else to quench that insatiable curiosity.

In the Spring, the Jeep stayed home and a walk through Portugal and Spain was on our to do list. We explored every beach, every village, and every curiosity on the way. On the move was our everyday. Laundry not quite dry? We improvised.

Travel? Journeys? On the Move?

Whatever your vision, grab those aha moments and enjoy that journey.

Hmmm, maybe it is that toddler in us that sets the stage for that on the move mentality. What do you think?

Wind Kisses,
