We are emerging…easing into retirement.
What does that even mean?
I was a little worried. I remember the days of my mom chasing my dad around the house with the vacuum, and his escape to the golf course. I remember him wanting to know the meal plan before he left the house, and stops at Harvey’s Bakery, so there would be dessert.
I chuckled at my husband making THE list of what WE would do when he retires. And how my eyes flew out of my head. I’m not used to having someone underfoot all the time, and spontaneity is often my POD.
He will learn. So will I. There is a lot of balance in a purpose driven life, and one of just being. Taking time to take the time is something we are both good at.
That someday is here. You DO know what I am talking about. Someday we will travel the world, someday I will write a book, someday I will be the part of something bigger.
Someday.
So far so good.

Oh how wonderful to read about your emerging into retirement, Donna! Having done that to some degree, I know exactly how nice it is not to have a plan, and just BE! Hans has been busy as the only substitute custodian for a 4-school district, but he can pick and choose the assignments. I take jobs (when I feel like it) as a substitute teacher. It’s really perfect! Lovely shots and quotes. Go out and gently discover those stars!

I love that you still substitute. It’s nice to have that productive feeling, and to pick and choose makes it that much nicer.
Summer is around the corner. You’ll be quite busy with yard and house and travel.
Thanks Terri.

Subbing is not a bad gig. Speaking of travel, we plan to be on a road trip for a few weeks beginning mid-June that will take us to Phoenix and Scottsdale. I’ll PM you more details when we get an idea. We hope to leave San Diego right after July 4th and head your way. Would love a meet-up with some AZ bloggers 🙂

I would love that. We will be gone a lot in June. If there was a day we could meet I would love it!!! Yes. Stay in touch.

Just right for what I hope we’ll be doing in a bit over a year. 🙂 I enjoyed the quotes as much as your photos and I love the word “saunter.” I once did a homeschooling class (one session) about the different meanings of words. Saunter is different from walk or amble or meander or… I do love words
If Terri gets in touch, I’d love to meet up with you and whoever else is around. But we can meet sooner than that. 🙂

I would enjoy seeing you often. I enjoy your company too. That said… we are on our way out again. To Moab. Hard to find a window of time.
I love words too. In Spain, I worked in the high school ( as an aide). Once a week the kids were given a word to write about. Ironically , very similar to our challenges. I loved reading what the kids came up with . Good times.

Thank you. I told my friend Kathy ( who lives in Gilbert). You were nearby. She’s always looking for someone to hop in her Jeep with her.

I’m always enjoying meeting new people, especially if they have Jeeps. 😉. Hopefully my schedule will open up a bit soon.

Congratulations!! …my husband retired 3 years ago. It’s been an adjustment, but I now love that he does the shopping, cleans the floors, makes my salad each night, and any other errand I ask of him. In return I keep working, and on my time off we go on adventures! No longer stressing with his job emailing and calling us (ugh), and blessed with my organization focused on Work/Life balance (no vacation interruptions). I hope you have all the fun you can possible cram into your life!

I can appreciate all of that. I actually left a few years ago. I do love that he loves to clean and he is a great cook.
Adventure is also what we love.. as you know.

I like the idea of emerging into retirement. We were the opposite of you two. My husband retired early and it was several years before I joined him. And I’m the one wanting some sort of plan for the week or structure, probably because I’m used to having to do that judging multiple work projects, while he’s got used to being spontaneous. I will learn! And so will your husband 😀

Retirement is an adjustment, but with over 10 years behind us, we surely settled in, and we wouldn’t change a thing.
I am a big fan of that image of the cyclist riding down that road. I’m assuming Monument Valley. Is that correct?

Thanks John. Truth is we are going to love it. I am sure. The photo is a “once in a lifetime “. We were on the white rim trail in canyonlands (it’s off the Shaffer Trail) It’s a lottery to have the opportunity to go down there. We spent 3 nights, camping. It was amazing. Not sure that opportunity will ever knock again. We treasure that time!!!

I loved these photos and your quotes, and I chuckled, because I think I’ll feel a bit of the same way when that day comes…having someone underfoot more often…lol. We’re quite a few years away from that though, unless we happen to come into a lot of money which is slim.

It’s all good. You’ll be happy the day you walk into that someday. Even with travel I find it’s a simpler life

Congrats on emerging into retirement! I dig that cup! It’s an awesome theme to everyday life or when you’re emerging into a new one …

Thank you. The cup does set the stage. It is my camping cup, and I love waking up with that reminder.
Thanks on the love. We are melding together nicely. I think we are gone more than we are home.
Thanks again.
