It was raining this morning. A welcome sound for the desert. It also meant Plan B. Maybe a later hike? Maybe a raincoat day?  Maybe more coffee since it was also cold.

With my current dilemma I think about how often the weather dictates what we do and how we do it. Weather isn’t necessarily a look at the sky, and instead it is relative to what we experience while we are in it.

Raincoat and boots, and I walked on to collect my thoughts. I figured the coffee would still be there when I got home, and my husband promised breakfast. The sky had cleared with the sunrise. The fresh, crisp air was reminiscent of the winters I miss in New England, and the snow on the neighboring hills was as promised by the meteorologists.

It always feels like such a contrast to our desert.

And that same snow, means a one-track mind for skiers. Later today, the slopes will be inundated with, normally fair-weather friends of the warm valley, who want to experience snow.

And I am reminded of our cooler temperatures from a few weeks ago. Pea-sized hail fell on our valley, contributing to the perfect playdate with my camera.

Rain? It reminds us to laugh in the face of adversity. Can we agree the grass will be greener on the other side? Most certainly even though I admit to a few complaints. Ha, to think the rain, or weather for that matter, might care about my opinions is entertaining.

It pays no attention to criticism. It just does what it needs to do.

Life lesson?

And on another note…have you ever rain-painted? Maybe it is time. It is true…

If you want that rainbow you gotta take the rain.

In truth, we cherish every drop of rain, and the loveliness of umbrellas in Arizona, but it is the notorious, warm weather of the southwest that brightens our EVERYday.

Sometimes all it takes is a smile to change someones weather. – W. Judd
