Stop here!
Who else does that on road trips when someone else is driving 70 miles an hour with three cars behind them? I am notorious for it. I see a curious place I want to explore, but traffic or speed squelches the idea.
There is always a good thing. The unwritten deal in our house, is a plan to come back. We just need to remember the location, and give ourselves time to stop safely.
Last weekend, while returning from, The Desert Bar, we stopped.
The brilliant colors are what caught my eye the first time around. This time, I realized the building was a renovated motel.
I learned about, Bonita Powell, a local resident, who had always wanted an art studio, and fell in love with this old, rundown motel. The rest is history. Artist friends joined her, and Mas Paz came to life. It, along with it’s sister owner of Courtyard Galleries, is now an eclectic landmark on the side of the road, in Wenden.

Welcome.

The flowers are made from tea lights, plates and bowls. This project makes me want to rummage through some yard sales. You?

Life’s a hoot, love whoo you are. Isn’t that what art/life is all about?

It was a fun find. I’m going back another time, to go inside. I had no idea there was studios within the studio.

I love the colors of the walls! What usually happens to me is that I see something that would make a fantastic photo, but there’s nowhere to stop or no way to get to it that I can see. As I’m often on a long driving trip, the thought of stopping even if there IS a place to stop wars with the desire to keep on going and get to my destination. But I’ve had to pass up many a photo op because of no safe stopping point. So sad.

Trips to Cali make stops a little harder.
Those types of places are frustrating. And those unstoppable places are often untouched, making them more interesting.
It took us a lot of years to find “our” balance in this( when we can). There is a #lovelife mural on the way to monument valley that we passed too many times. I think when that he in my we realized how happy a little shop made me, we started becoming more deliberate. Lol. I did a blog post on that. If you ever head that way, I have the mile marker for a stop. Lol. It’s my favorite. Donna

Often I’m driving 6-12 hours, so a stop can really make a difference and once I get in driving mode, it’s hard to stop. There are a couple places on the road to LA that I will stop next time, one has an old Rt. 66-type building near the exit. We want to do Rt. 66 at some point because my husband loves it and rode his bike on parts of it, including the start (or end) in Chicago.

I think that would be fun too. we have stopped at a few towns we known the west, but yes, to travel the whole thing would be great fun.

Oh wow, this is wonderful! I would be shouting stop too! And given that on a road trip a return visit is unlikely, our ploy would be to turn at the next available opportunity and double back. Worth doing for something this colourful and photo-worthy 😀

Hahaha yes, I know the u-turn ploy too. These surprises are so fun to break up long rides as well as find fun. Donna

Ahh, this is beautiful, all of it, the flowers, the owl, the sentiment, remembering to return. Such good vibes from this place and from you, always.
