What glowing moments have been special in your life?
This week, Siobhan of Bend Branches is our guest host. I love that her words prompt us with a vision of herself, in a closet, with her cherished lightening bugs. What immediately comes to mind, for me, is Arizona’s recent wildflower bloom, lanterns, sunshine, and Friday Night Lights. Thomas Edison deserves a nod too, doesn’t he?
With an overlanding trip on the horizon, I also think of the ambiance of a campfire. Are you like me, and love to watch the flames dance around the logs with crackles and snaps without purpose? Symbolic of warmth and comfort, I wonder if maybe we are trying to recreate the memories that leave us with a deep breath on the horizon.

Or maybe we love the reminder of how the hot coals create caverns much like the slot canyons a little further north.

There are only perfect, glowing moments, like this one, and then there are the everyday moments that weave them together into a shimmering path that can always be seen , even in the dark. – Kristan Higgins

And that darkness, paramount, in an effort to see the light and recognize it’s worth. Life? We aren’t always gifted that ray of sunshine, are we? Our shadows prove to us that we can walk in the sun with resilience, and choose to grab glowing moments that belong to us, and only us.
In case you need the reminder,
It is ok to be a glow stick. Sometimes we need to break before we shine.

And wait… there are times you might think your light is too small to shine. Trust me…even the smallest light can radiate a huge impact on the lives of others. Yup…It is scorpion season in the desert. For those unfamiliar to the desert, scorpions do glow when exposed to UV light. It is due to the presence of beta carboline in their exoskeleton.
Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself – Coco Chanel

And finally, that reminds me…
I’m not saying I am Wonder Woman. I am just saying no one has ever seen me and Wonder Woman in the same room…

Wind Kisses, Donna

Love the glow stick analogy – this is one I will remember for a long time!

I think a lot of people might. It made the tough stuff easier to come to terms with. Thanks Ju-Lyn.

LOL for the Wonder Woman comment Donna. Really cracked me up! Candidly it wouldn’t surprise me if you WERE wonder woman! Loved the way you worked your way through this one. You wove a story and illustrated it perfectly. And yes, our shadows DO prove to us that we can walk in the sun. Beautifully said and shown.

Thankfully we haven’t had scorpions here but I know they’re around. I really like the second shot (discounting the header) of the curved rock but I liked them all (except that scorpion.) Next time we meet, I’ll take a look and see if I can find Wonder Woman. 🙂 Safe travels.

lol. Yes. We keep track of the scorpions for the grandkids sake. Pretty dangerous for the young…and the old. I guess not able to fight off the venom as easily. They are fun to search for at night, and in fact is the only reason we have a black light.

Thanks. It’s a little fuzzy and was a little tricky to look in the sun, but it was fun, and appropriate for the challenge. Thanks Again.

I like the glow stick and want to add that sometimes the ONLY way to really shine is to be broken – or humbled…
and the opening image had the fire and the sky – so cool to have so much in that image

I remember sitting there a few months ago with just quiet thoughts. Nothing really needs to be said sometimes. Yes. I think it is the hard stuff in life that defines us, giving us our character.

For me it is hard to say which photo I liked best. They are all beautiful, also the scorpion. Maybe I am naïve, but do they actually glow? Or was that “editing”? I have never seen a scorpion at night.

Thank you Stella. And thank you for your question. I updated my post with the info. The scorpios do glow with a UV light. It’s fun to find them and , of course, beneficial to know they are there. A sting is dangerous for young kids and older adults.

You’ve surely met the challenge this week, Donna. My favorite image is that juxtaposition of the sunset and fire. Wonderful capture!

Thanks John. I am glad you liked it. And that is a favorite photo of mine as well, because I remember sitting right there when I took the photo. It was looking towards Mt. Charleston, outside Vegas. A different Vegas over there. Lots of possibilities for Siobhan’s challenge this week. Fun.

What a collection, Donna. That scorpion! Wow! I’ve never seen anything like that. The coals is a stunning photo, and the slot canyons are where we really want to visit. So beautiful, like nothing else. I hope we can go in 2024 🤞

Fingers crossed indeed. I would be great to see you travel this way, Dan. I am sure we will continue to stay in touch here. We are a good resource for what not to miss. That is a fascinating part of the country. Thanks for your note. Yes. Scorpions are cool to look at anyway.

Loved the slot canyon and arched door view, Donna! The quote about breaking before shining really touched me. 🙂 No, I did not know scorpions glowed. We have some in our yard, but they are seldom seen. Your references to Wonder Woman cracked me up!

It was a fun challenge. As I told a few others. I had a lot of content. The hard part was deciding which way to travel with it. I decided fun would be the choice. Thank you. It was a great challenge.

I am not surprised you nailed this challenge Donna, your posts are often filled with glowing moments 😍 That hand ‘holding’ the sun, the campfire, the glow from the scorpion – all so magical! And perfect quotes to accompany the images too.
