Quietude: Defined as a state of stillness, calmness and quiet in a person or place. It’s not something that happens by accident. It happens when we are deliberate about finding the time and space to step away from our every day life and simply… be.
I love quiet. On most days it comes with the sunrise and fresh brewed coffee on my patio. Not always. In the past, quiet has been on top of mountains, sitting at the edge of a lake, or overlooking canyons. For you, it might look different.
Be ready.
The breeze at dawn has something to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep. – Rumi

When we engage in this quietude we look closer at contemplation, appreciate timeless moments and dwell in nothingness. And it feels nice. It feels rejuvenating and it feels necessary.
Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the gods. – RW Emerson

There is a voice that doesn’t use words, listen. -Rumi

When we drop into nature, we can hear ourselves more clearly.

Close your eyes for a second, what do you hear?

Life is the tiniest flicker of time, gifted to us for no other reason than to live it.
Do that.

Excellent! And beautiful. I like that there is just one person in each shot (plus one with the camera). Well done.

Thank you John. Feels like reflection with one. I’m a curious soul, and am often behind the camera, and yet my husband does a nice job capturing me in my thoughts. Thanks again.

These are amazing pics and clearly represent quietude. These are great! I love that word! Nature and The Great Outdoors finds a way to bring quiet to a noisy mind or noisy life. Plus that quote! The breeze at dawn has something to tell you! DUDE! I had never heard that and it was … wow. I’m gonna have to look him up.Good post! Glad to discover your blog 🙂 THANKS for sharing

I have been to many of those places, Donna! The sheer size and immense beauty of the West certainly invoke the idea of quietude and we should try to get some every day!

Thanks Terri. Yes, even during these times when many of us feel trapped at home, there is still opportunity to be deliberate about quietude. Thanks again

Stunning photos Donna, today I listened and could hear the sea in the wind through our trees. It was amazing! I haven’t seen the sea in months as we can only travel within our own county now and we are a land-locked county.

I am glad you can at least hear the sea. I remember you are landlocked and I still think you have such an interesting and unique life you have. I thought of you when I read my last book. It was called the Little Beach Street Bakery. It was just a novel but takes place in St Michaels Mt., Cornwall England. Seemed lovely. I imagine your island is much larger but how wonderful, just the same.

You’ve chosen several of my favorite places ever – the Utah National Parks. They’re astounding in their beauty and one is VERY fortunate to find quiet moments there. We were in Bryce once when a violent thunderstorm hit. We sat in our car until it passed and afterwards the light was absolute magic and there wasn’t a sole there except us. A very fond memory, thanks for the reminder.

ah yes, the storms coming through are often the most magical times in the west. We are excited that we just got our permit to camp along the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands. It is beautiful to just be IN the Utah Parks, but a week down inside will be amazing. It will be in October. Thanks Tina. Always inspired by your and your photography.
